The Acoustic Design Of Recording Studio

A perfect recording studio is not equipped with a full range of equipment to achieve the desired sound, and acoustic design is also important. Good acoustic design and decoration can complement the recording equipment and better express the essence of sound.

Acoustic design and decoration can reduce noise, reduce vibration, and make the sound curve in the shed smooth and mellow. The acoustic indicators of the studio decoration mainly include reverberation time, background noise, air sound insulation, impact sound insulation and sound field distribution.

1. Reverberation time:

The so-called reverberation time is the time required for the sound pressure level to attenuate by 60 dB after the indoor sound source stops sounding. The reverberation time is too short, the sound is dry, boring and tasteless, and it is not friendly. If the reverberation time is too long, the sound will be confusing; when appropriate, the sound will be smooth and pleasant. The reverberation length of the room is determined by its suction volume and volume. The room with large volume and small suction volume has a long reverberation time, and the room with large volume and small volume has a short reverberation time.

2. Background noise:

Whether it is listening environment or recording environment, you need to be quiet. To ensure peace, you need to do two things: first, don't let the noise come in outside; second, there should be no noise source indoors. Generally, the material and method for reducing noise are selected according to the size of the recording studio and the structure of the recording studio itself. Also, when selecting the location of the studio, avoid rooms that are close to the location of the air conditioner and other equipment rooms.

3. Sound insulation problem:

First, low background noise is required, which requires as much interference as possible from outside interference, and sound isolation is required without interference. Sound insulation includes air and percussion sounds, which are commonly known as the sound insulation of the entire wall. Percussion sound insulation is mainly a problem of footstep isolation.

There are three main ways to improve the sound insulation of floor slabs:

(1) Laying elastic surface layer materials such as: acoustical felts, cushions, etc. on the base plate, this method is very effective for improving the high-frequency impact sound in the floor.

(2) Floating structure, floating structure is to arrange elastic devices, such as sound insulation boards, between the ground floor and the load-bearing floor.

(3) Add a sound-absorbing and shock-absorbing ceiling under the base floor.

4. Sound field distribution problem:

The sound field distribution refers to the distribution of sound. When the sound field is unevenly distributed, acoustic staining phenomena such as standing wave, sound focusing, and tremor echo will occur. We rationally allocate the ratio of length, width and height of the room according to ISO related standards and acoustic design theory, do diffusion treatment, and properly cooperate with computer simulation to ensure a good acoustic environment.
