How Do You Record Dialogue In The Studio?

- Sep 26, 2018-

In the recording of film and television dramas, dialogue is a relatively important recording environment. When recording dialogues, the first thing we need to consider is the location of the recording in order to achieve good intelligibility, clarity and fullness.

When selecting or processing the studio, the low frequency reverberation time of the studio should be slightly shorter, the intermediate frequency reverberation time is higher than the low frequency reverberation time, and the high frequency reverberation time is slightly higher than the intermediate frequency reverberation time, but the high frequency reverberation is not suitable. Too much to get good clarity and intelligibility. But everything is still based on a relatively straight reverberation curve, which can control the pickup of the throat and nasal sounds.

Capacitive microphones with high sensitivity and good transient response characteristics should be selected for recording dialogue. When placing the microphone, the first thing to pay attention to is the directivity index of the microphone. On this basis, adjust the distance between the microphone and the sound source and the position and distance between the microphones.

In general, the distance between the microphone and the actor should be controlled between 30 cm and 60 cm. It is not good to be too close or too far. Only the proper distance can make the recording dialogue effect optimal.
