What Is Tape Background Noise?

- Jun 20, 2018-

Tape background noise is the noise generated by the tape's self-directed structural characteristics. Since the magnetic material on the magnetic tape is a granular material (magnetic powder), a tiny magnetic unit is formed. If these magnetic units are demagnetized and still have a slight amount of remanence, they will be induced when they pass through the playback head. Instantaneous random noise potential, this noise is not related to the presence or absence of the signal, so called background noise.
