What Is Sound?

- Oct 10, 2018-

Sound is the vibration of an object, through the propagation of air (not discussing the propagation in other media), the acoustic information obtained by the vibration of the human eardrum. Due to the vibration of the object (sound source), the air particles propagate outward to form a compressed layer and a sparse layer, that is, acoustic wave motion is formed. Sound waves travel from the sound source to all directions, just as we see when we cast a stone to the surface. The ripples spread out from the vibration point to the surroundings. Water is marginal, and air is infinite, and sound waves should spread indefinitely. However, in reality, energy is consumed by the medium during the diffusion of the sound wave, and therefore, its intensity is weakened as the propagation distance increases, and finally disappears completely.
