What Is SMPTE?

- Aug 09, 2018-

SMPTE is a time synchronized format. It is a time code format jointly defined by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers and the European Broadcasting Union. SMPTE is a real-time time reference that contains the current hours, minutes, seconds, and frames. A frame is a more detailed format than a second, and the frame can be subdivided into digital bits in more detail. In the SMPTE format, each frame can contain different frames, that is, frame frequency, and the frame frequency is divided into 24, 25, 29.97, and 30, which are used for different service objects, such as movies and televisions. Generally better recorders can receive and send SMPTE codes at different frame frequencies.
