What Is IM?

- Jul 18, 2018-

In a cable television system, when an amplifier amplifies a television signal of a plurality of channels, the nonlinearity of the amplifier (mainly a quadratic term) causes the transmitted signals to be mixed with each other, and the generated sum or difference frequency falls to the frequency range of the channel to be received. Interference with the useful signal into the TV receiver will cause interference, which is called mutual modulation and intermodulation. Mutual modulation is closely related to frequency. Intermodulation interference produces texture or twill interference. The intermodulation ratio is defined as IM=20lg carrier level rms/intermodulation product RMS. The national standard specifies IM57dB, which should be 58dB.
