What Is Expander?

- Aug 24, 2018-

The expander is a device that expands the dynamics of the sound signal. When the signal is less than a certain value (threshold value), the gain is small. When the signal is larger than the threshold, the gain is large, so that the signal higher than the extended threshold increases the gain, that is, the signal with loud loudness is louder and the loudness is weak. The signal is weaker, increasing the dynamic range of the signal, and the expander's expansion ratio is infinity ratio, and the expander is the noise gate. The high-level expander is an expander for decompressing. When the signal is less than the threshold, the normal output (expansion ratio is 1:1). When the signal is larger than the threshold, the signal is expanded, and the compressed signal recorded on the tape during recording can be restored the original signal. The low level expander is when the input signal is less than the threshold, the input signal is expanded. When the input signal is higher than the threshold, the relationship between the output signal and the input signal is still maintained at 1:1, that is, the normal output is used together with the compressor to reduce the sound. System noise, improve signal to noise ratio.
