What Is Boundary Microphone?

- Jul 16, 2018-

The Boundary Microphone, also known as the Pressure Zone Microphone, is a microphone designed to reduce the interference between direct and reflected sound signals by detecting changes in sound pressure levels on the boundary of the acoustic space. The capsules of such microphones are usually attached to a large, smooth surface for the purpose of forming a hemispherical pickup pattern. In addition, the area of the attachment surface is specifically designed according to the wavelength of the sound signal to be captured, because if the area is too small, high frequency lifting phenomenon occurs due to the inability to capture low frequency content.
