What Is A Compressor?

- May 24, 2018-

The compressor is a device that reduces the dynamic range of the audio signal. First set a threshold. If the audio signal is greater than this threshold, its gain is reduced. The amount of gain reduction depends on the compression ratio setting.

For example, if the ratio is set to 2:1, then each 2 dB increase in input level will only cause a 1 dB change in the output level. Many other parameters of the compressor also affect the processing performance of a particular signal. Trigger time, release time, and other factors are also important.
