The Function and Structure of the Bass Horn

- Sep 06, 2018-

The woofer is the bass horn unit in the speaker. The woofer function is to reproduce the low frequency signal (the frequency range is generally 20Hz-150Hz) output from the frequency divider. In general, the larger the diameter, magnet and voice coil diameter of the woofer, the better the low-frequency playback performance and transient characteristics, and the higher the sensitivity.

The structure of the woofer is mostly a cone type, and a small amount is a flat type. There are many kinds of diaphragms for woofer, such as aluminum alloy diaphragm, aluminum-magnesium alloy diaphragm, ceramic diaphragm, carbon fiber diaphragm, bulletproof cloth diaphragm, glass fiber diaphragm, acrylic diaphragm, paper diaphragm and so on. The woofer with aluminum diaphragm and glass fiber diaphragm generally has a relatively small caliber and a relatively large power consumption, while the woofer with enhanced paper cone and glass fiber diaphragm reproduces the sound more accurately, and the overall balance is good.
