The Difference Between Power Divider and Power Separator

- Oct 12, 2018-

The power separator has two 50Ω resistors, only 50Ω for the input port and 83.3Ω for the other ports. It is used to improve output-to-source matching in level and ratio measurements, thereby minimizing measurement uncertainty.

The Power divider with three 16 2/3 Ω resistors, each with 50Ω, is used to separate the source signal into two equal parts for comparison measurements. The power splitter provides good impedance matching at both output ports. It can also be used to measure different properties of two output signals, such as frequency and power. The power splitter can also be used for a combination of two signals because these ports are bidirectional.
