The Classification of the Microphone Diaphragm

- Jul 30, 2018-

Condenser microphones can be divided into large diaphragms and small diaphragms according to the diaphragm. The characteristics of the large diaphragm are very similar to those of the speaker. As we all know, the woofer is usually very large, while the tweeter is relatively small. This is because when high-frequency sound waves reach the surface of the diaphragm, the diaphragm produces corresponding high-frequency motion. If the material of the diaphragm is not uniform, the mechanical properties will not be the same. At this time, there will be several different vibration conditions in the diaphragm, which will cause the diaphragm to deform. In this way, the distortion is the inevitable thing. The small diaphragm is relatively small, so the chance of uneven material is much smaller than that of the large diaphragm. The strength of the entire diaphragm is not easy to deform, so the distortion of high frequency will be relatively small. By the same token, a large diaphragm will not be as good as a small diaphragm because of the high frequency limit of the diaphragm. The small diaphragm, for high frequency performance, and the low frequency is not good, because the lower frequency limit of the small diaphragm is limited. In this way, different sound characteristics of the large diaphragm and the small diaphragm are cast.

The sound of the large diaphragm is usually warm and generous; the mid-low frequency feels very good, very real! And the small diaphragm, the resolution at high frequencies is very amazing, very delicate. This way the overall tone is colder. Therefore, many times the tone is chosen, it becomes very important.
